Wood Pellet procurement in South East Asia Pellet fuels (or pellets) are biofuels made from compressed organic matter or biomass. Pellets can be made from any one of five general categories of biomass: industrial waste and co-products, food waste, agricultural residues, energy crops, and untreated lumber.
Wood Pellet is a biomass energy source identified years ago as an ecological alternative to fossil energy sources. Its discovery in the 70s began to find its true response on the market only in the 2000s, when the issues inherent to the global climate crisis prompted some entrepreneurs to advance in the production of the same. Being a woody material and deriving from waste from wood processing, it found its first confirmation in the USA and later in Eurasia.
In light of today's events, many producers in Europe have reached the maximum production capacity in an attempt to satisfy the rush to its supply by consumers who today are no longer just individuals but also companies that are converting the use of materials. first fossils with the Wood Pellet.
For current reasons and related to the sanctions applied by the West to the Russian Federation (one of the world's largest producers), the supply of wood pellets begins to become a problem, also due to the fact that Asia and especially China and Vietnam , like Indonesia and Thailand, produce large quantities but for internal use as well as a large export to South Korea and Japan, which also use wood pellets for industrial as well as domestic use.
From this huge demand and export from Asia to Asia, as well as the restrictive certifications required by the European Union, most Asian producers do not possess these certifications even though they have the requisites to obtain such certifications.
The race for energy supply, which has now become the object of rupture and power between the West and the East, does not allow for large margins of negotiation for exports from Asia to Europe. It is also true, however, that a presence on the territory of consultant operators allows room for maneuver to overcome the aforementioned problems.
Removing wood pellets from the list of recognized renewable fuels would have been a major blow to the European carbon reduction plan. RED II, according to the European Commission, sets a target for renewable energy consumption of 32% by 2030.
The energy content of wood pellets is approximately 4.6 - 5.1 MWh / ton¹. In other words, a ton of wood pellets has the energy equivalent of +/- 500 l of heating oil! When used in high efficiency wood pellet stoves and boilers, the pellet typically offers a combustion efficiency greater than 85%.
AD ASIA Consulting, present on the Asian market since 1996, is dedicated in this situation more than ever, to establish bilateral contractual relationships for the supply of pellets, accompanying both the producer and the buyer in obtaining quality and EU certifications, EN Plus A1 and anything else required by the importing country.
